There were no other colours they both liked.<\/p>\n<p>That starting point led to a design \u00a0that balanced the raw grey elements; including polished concrete, silvered rough sawn timber and off-grey painted blockwork with varying tones of blue.<\/p>\n<p>Marco explains: &#8220;Although these colours might typically be found in other settings &#8211; for example gallery style concrete floors and faded timber for a coastal feel.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Or even quasi-industrial exposed blockwork and saturated blue tones evoking a scholastic environment, the nostalgic origins were not the reason for that design.<\/p><div class=\"gdmag-content-2\" id=\"gdmag-2233433256\" data-cfpa=\"19928\" data-cfpw=\"19928\"><div class=\"gdmag-adlabel\">Advertisements<\/div><!-- code from Primis - class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Curtaz Studio<\/p><\/div>\n<h2>The blue and grey colour palette<\/h2>\n<p>Despite it being an unusual choice, the blue and grey works beautifully together.<\/p>\n<p>In general, it seems people are learning to use colour more boldly in their designs.<\/p>\n<p>Marco adds: &#8220;For a few years now I&#8217;ve noticed that our clients seem to be less afraid of the bolder colours, which was often the case previously.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Raw textures also have surged in popularity over the last decade.<\/p><div class=\"gdmag-prop-primary-mpu\" id=\"gdmag-1901277436\" data-cfpa=\"20294\" data-cfpw=\"20294\"><div class=\"gdmag-adlabel\">Advertisements<\/div><div class=\"GRVMpuWrapper\"><div class=\"GRVAd inline\" data-ad-type=\"mpu\" data-ad-sizes=\"[[300,250]]\" data-ad-refreshmapping=\"always\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><script type=\"text\/javascript\">;new advadsCfpAd( 20294 );<\/script>\n<p>&#8220;This project felt like a chance to move with the times and combine the two trends to create something spectacular.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2>It&#8217;s all in the details<\/h2>\n<p>Marco believes the details have added a homely warmth to the property.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Light ash wood details added a \u2018homely\u2019 warmth with plain white walls and ceilings providing relief, and black fittings acting as a neutral accent.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The more domestic-scale detailing of the ash handles and framing, finely patterned blue-grey wall tiles, and intricate profiling on the timber cladding help to balance against the larger scale formats of polished concrete, blockwork and frameless glass.&#8221;<\/p><div class=\"gdmag-prop-in-content-mpu\" id=\"gdmag-888222127\" data-cfpa=\"20294\" data-cfpw=\"20294\"><div achieved.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The clients both love hot weather, the hotter the better, and always wished for a room that could be filled with plants.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So, we proposed a frameless glass rooflight along the full length of the extension to flood the space with natural light.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The off-white blockwork wall helps to bounce this light into the rest of the space.&#8221;<\/p><div class=\"gdmag-prop-in-content-mpu-2\" id=\"gdmag-4056692821\" data-cfpa=\"20294\" data-cfpw=\"20294\"><div class=\"gdmag-adlabel\">Advertisements<\/div><div advadsCfpAd( 20294 );<\/script>\n<h3>Concrete flooring<\/h3>\n<p>The concrete floor in the extension is sleek and stunning, it works perfectly in the space.<\/p>\n<p>Marco explains why it was chosen: &#8220;Powerfloated concrete was one of the first raw textures I suggested.
